Security management officers help to prevent crime. They work to ensure the safety of both people and property. Although there are no formal entry requirements for the role, all security officers are required to be licensed by the involves formal training and qualifications, usually provided by employers.
Work activities vary greatly, but may include watching and monitoring cameras. Collecting and escorting money or other valuables in a security van. Searching vehicles as they enter and leave airports and other premises. Patrolling a site or building to check security and investigating any problems. Checking people who leave and enter premises.
Keeping accurate records and writing reports for use by the police or courts is the trade association for the professional security industry and represents over 540 member organizations that are responsible for more than 70 of the security business. The BSIA has established a Police and Public Services Section for companies that provide support services to the police and related public sector organizations. This support forms part of the wider policing family and is intended to help free up specialist police officers to focus on core duties.
